Epidural Steroid Injections
Each ESI procedure at Premier Diagnostic is staffed by a nurse, a radiology technologist, and a radiologist. Needle placement is guided under fluoroscopy. Depending on the severity of the pain and inflammation, patients may receive a series of three injections.
Patient Instructions
- Patient should stop anticoagulants listed below:
- Aspirin and aspirin products – patient must be off 7 days prior to exam.
- Coumadin – patient must be off 3 days prior to exam.
- Plavix – patient must be off 5 days prior to exam.
- Patient is not permitted to drive after the ESI and must have a driver present.
- No solid food 4 hours prior to exam. May have clear liquids until 1 hour prior to exam.
- Patient must bring current list of medications.
- Notify Premier if allergic to IV contrast or iodine.
- Patient should bring most recent lumbar MRI films or CD, if from another facility.
