Virtual Colonoscopy
Virtual colonoscopy is a recently developed procedure that uses a CT scanner and computer virtual reality software to look inside the large bowel (colon). Most patients report that the virtual colonoscopy is more comfortable than either the barium enema or conventional colonoscopy.
Why?
Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths and can potentially be prevented if colon polyps are discovered and removed early. Individuals at greatest risk of developing colorectal cancer are over 50, and have family history of colon cancer or polyps.
How?
The actual procedure will begin by having a small tube placed in the rectum, to inflate the colon with carbon dioxide, which is easily absorbed by the body. The CT scan is performed while the patient lies on their back and then on their stomach. The total time for the procedure is 10-20 minutes. The radiologist analyzes the data to detect colon polyps or cancers. Patients can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.
CT Virtual Colonoscopy is currently not covered by most insurance plans. Call your carrier for verification of coverage. Patients are required to pay for the procedure at the time of service or payment arrangements can be made through Premier Diagnostic Imaging before scheduling the procedure.

Cardiac Risk Screening
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in America, but it is largely preventable. If detected early, it can be stopped or reversed. Participation in a health screening can determine your risk for heart disease. Cardiac screenings are of particular importance to patients with multiple risk factors for heart disease such as: family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, smoking, lack of exercise, poor diet, and a high stress lifestyle.

CT Coronary Calcium Scoring is a simple procedure to evaluate coronary arteries for the presence of calcium deposits. In a Cardiac Stress test, the patient exercises on a programmed treadmill that progressively increases in speed and elevation, while blood pressure, heart rate, and heart rhythm are monitored.

Osteoporosis and Bone Density Testing
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks, typically in the hip, spine, and wrist. Bone density tests are the only way to detect low bone mass.
Although most insurance companies will pay for annual bone density exams, Medicare will only cover one every two years.
