Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine Imaging is a diagnostic tool, which involves the injection or ingestion of a small quantity of radioactive material. The radioactive levels, in most cases, are equal to or less than what you would receive from a routine x-ray or CT examination.

Nuclear medicine is unique because it documents function, as well as structure. For example, nuclear medicine allows physicians to see how a kidney functions, not just what it looks like. Common nuclear medicine procedures include thyroid studies, bone scans, lung scans, cardiac stress tests, and liver and gallbladder procedures.

Some nuclear medicine procedures may require special preparations before the test. Your physician will provide these instructions for you. If you have any questions about the procedure, please call Premier Diagnostic Imaging.
